Mega Running Update

So, I got a little behind on this, thankfully I have that trusty Garmin Forerunner! I love that thing. I also ran into a bit of a problem with that as the charger wouldn't charge it; I was nervous it was the watch that was shot. I called and didn't even really have to hassle around much; they sent me a new charger that took a few days to get. It was a little funny because when I got it and plugged it in, it didn't charge instantly and I took a deep nervous breath.. seconds later the charge caught. That's been the craziest experience that I can think of through all of this, except, of course the Grandma's Marathon which I'll blog about later. And the few "recovery" runs I've done since then.. you know the ones that you go really slow and feel like your hamstring is going to tear, shred, and or/pop every step?

Anyway.. are you ready for this?

Day 16: 6.51 miles in 50:31
Day 17: 2.12 miles in 19:30 (Must have been a run with Kayla :))
Day 18: 3 miles in 18:14 and 2.11 in 16:51
Day 19: 2.20 miles in 15:40
Day 20: 3.88 miles in 25:28
Day 21: 2.24 miles in 15:51
Week 3: 32.97 miles in 4 hours 27 minutes and 05 seconds

Day 22 (April 23):15.05 miles in 1:53
Day 23: 2.10 miles in 15:39
Day 24: 2.13 miles in 15:17

Day 26: 5.83 miles in 42:10
Day 27: 2.13 miles in 15:50
Day 28 (April 29): 5.01 miles in 36:55
Week 4: 37.26 miles in 4 hours 35 minutes and 54 seconds  (mostly all on a gimpy shin after my 15 mile run. I'm not sure if it was a shin splint or what, but a little ice, stretching and no pain no gain got me through the week)

Day 29 (April 30): 10.26 miles in 1:29 (group run)
Day 30: 2.22 miles in 15:19
Day 31: 5.02 miles in 36:17

Day 34: 2.15 miles in 13:09
Day 35 (May 6): 10.03 miles in 1:10 (alone long run)
Week 5: 36.39 miles in 4 hours 27 minutes (Thought I had more mileage this week but overall a pretty solid week as far as times go)

35 day total of the 365 Day Challenge: 187.79 miles in 23 hours 3 minutes and 18 seconds.

Right now, I'm at about 5.4 miles per day in 7 minutes 21 seconds per run. If I wanted to, I'd calculate that over the course of 365 days to see where I would be at if I maintained those averages.. but there are too many variables in all that to figure out.

What did I learn these 3 weeks:
-I'm not very good at blogging about this, and I need to improve
-The week where my shin hurt didn't really turn into that bad of a week; which shocked me.
-I hope I don't get any serious injuries, running through them is going to be the only way to beat them. Mental toughness needs to be there for me.
-I enjoy running with the groups because I can get bored on occasion running on my own.

365 Day Challenge: 14 Days In!

As I mentioned earlier, I have this crazy notion to run at least one mile every day for 365 straight days.  Shockingly, I'm off to a decent start despite my pesky IT bands and creaky knees (You'd be amazed at what a foam roller and stretching can do).
Here is a list of my miles and times thus far:

Day 1:  10.13 miles in 72 minutes
Day 2:  5 miles in 39:10
Day 3:  5 miles in 37:16 (treadmill run)
Day 4:  2.19 miles in 20:05
Day 5:  3 miles in 18:26 (6x800) and 1.35 mile cool down in 10:38
Day 6:  7 miles in 50:35
Day 7 (April 8):  5 miles in 38:12
WEEK ONE TOTAL:  38.67 miles in 3 hours, 46 minutes and 22 seconds ish

Day 8: 16.20 miles in 146 minutes (Group Run)
Day 9:  3.54 miles in 29:46
Day 10:  5 miles in 35:55
Day 11:  2.11 miles in 14:43
Day 12:  9 miles in 62 minutes
Day 13:  4.53 miles in 43:41 (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KAYLA)
Day 14 (April 15):  2.12 miles in 14:52
WEEK TWO TOTAL: 42.5 miles in 5 hours 46 minutes and 57 seconds ish

14 day total:  81.17 miles in 9 hours, 33 minutes and 19 seconds.

Hopefully, I'll remember to write this in my running journal, and then I can just highlight runs and give the weekly totals from now on. I'm not very good at that; the government may reach a budget consensus before I write in my running journal daily.  Either way, it's been fun so far!

Things I've already learned:
-You can't replace stretching and the foam roller
-Running is easier once you're out the door
-Running to run isn't that easy; I'm always competing with myself.
-It's more fun to run with a person without considering time than running alone considering time
-The first two weeks have flown by.
-I don't think I've lost a pound because I eat a lot now. (especially salt)
-Finding time is easier to run when you don't play video games instead

Next Up: Grandma's Marathon

Well, after sorta, kinda planning to run the Illinois Marathon at the end of this month I decided I wasn't ready.  I have plenty of excuses, all of which seem childish, so I'm not going to go into them.  Instead, I set my sights on Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota.  The marathon will be the latest into the summer that I've ever run one, but some debate if northern Minnesota even knows what summer is.

I'm excited for this race; I see they have 3:10 and 3:20 pacers.  I ran ahead of the 3:20 at Green Bay until cramps dominated me, and they blew by with about a mile left.  I'm going to try to hang in between the two again this year, at least, that's the plan right now.  That was the plan until I saw that it's a Boston qualifier; maybe, just maybe, I'll keep up with the 3:10 pacer!

I've heard a lot of good things about the run, great weather, beautiful scenery, and an awesome crowd.  I'm looking forward to seeing the sites in Duluth, and it sounds like I'll be able to stay with some in-laws right on the race course.  That's a good thing, considering my mom told me a few nights of hotels that weekend are around $500!

Two questions I have to find answers for:
1.  Is the race Boston qualifying? (IT IS!!)
2.  What's all in this Powerade with Ion4?  (Really?  High Fructose Corn Syrup?  Despite the "corn sugar" commercial; I don't believe all sugar is the same.)

Are you running the Grandma's Marathon or do you have any information about the course, things to do, watch for?  Share them with me!
